Anne Hébert: Feste (En guise de fête)

Lumas la sun'
Lumas la sun'
Kompleta estas la mond'
Kaj ronda – la ĝarden'.

Mi ekbruligis du kandelojn
Du vaksfajrojn
Kiel du flavajn florojn.

Putras la tag'
La noktaj fajroj –
Du velkintaj floroj
Kun blankaj preĝejaj tigoj;

La mond' estas en ordo
La mortintoj kuŝitaj
La vivantoj starantaj.

La mortintoj vizitas min
La mond' estas en ordo
La mortintoj kuŝitaj
La vivantoj starantaj.

La mortintoj vundas min
La vivantoj min mortigas.

Mi ekbruligis
Du tremantajn florojn,
Mi deponis miajn okulojn
Sur ambaŭ manplantojn
Kiel du akvoŝtonojn

Kaj mi dancis
La gestojn de la frenezuloj
Ĉirkaŭ miaj larmoj
Feste.
Le soleil luit
Le soleil luit
Le monde est complet
Et rond le jardin.

J'ai allumé deux chandelles
Deux feux de cire
Comme deux fleurs jaunes.

Le jour pourrit
Les feux de nuit,
Deux fleurs fanées,
Aux blanches tiges d’église;

Le monde est en ordre
Les morts dessous
Les vivants dessus.

Les morts me visitent
Le monde est en ordre
Les morts dessous
Les vivants dessus.

Les morts m'ennuient
Les vivants me tuent.

J'ai allumé
Deux fleurs tremblantes,
J'ai pris mes yeux
Dans mes mains
Comme des pierres d’eau

Et j'ai dansé
Les gestes des fous
Autour de mes larmes
En guise de fête.

Mary Elizabeth Frye: De l' Tombo Foru Larmfaci' (Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep)

De l' tombo foru larmfaci' –
Ĝi vakas ja. Ne dormas mi.

Ventar' mi estas, fortblovant';
Surneĝa bril' de l' diamant';
Sunlumo sur matura gren';
Aŭtunotempa pluvoben';
Ĉe la vekiĝo dum matensilent'
La hasto kun soriga tent'
De birdoj girantaj en bluĉiel';
Mildstel-scintilo en noktmalhel'.

De l' tombo foru plorfaci' –
Ĝi vakas ja. Ne mortis mi.
Do not stand at my grave and weep –
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry –
I am not there. I did not die.

Edward Stachura: Ĉielira provo (Próba wniebowstąpienia)

Venu al mi malkaŝpekantino
mi lante disŝiros cin
en ĉiujn esperojn de koloroj kaj kuniĝoj

eble vi disfloros je tagiĝo
kiel belega animo de sunfloro
Przyjdź do mnie jawnogrzesznico
będę cię rozdzierał powoli
na wszelkie nadzieje kolorów i zespolenie

William Blake: La malsana rozo (The Sick Rose)

Ho Rozo, ci malsanas.
La nevidebla drak',
Kiu flugas en la nokt'
En hojlanta tempest'

Malkovris cian liton
de pupurĝojo
Kaj ĝia nigre sekreta am'
Cian vivon detruas ja!
O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

The Mountain Goats (La Montokaproj): Vendejo (Store)

kaj tiom puregis ajn-ajna frekvenc'
ke mi preskaŭ ja kredis
ke por l' kaptruvidon
elteni sufiĉos de l' koro potenc'

ho, la sang'! tiom da sang'!
tiom da varmsang' liberflua el vi!
in the five minutes worth of lost time that i had,
when i was passed out on the supermarket floor,
i saw you at the head of the heavenly chorus.
and i heard your song ringing all through the store.

in the five minutes
when my broadcast got pre-empted,
i saw you touch down. you were no longer dead.
i was happy to see ya. i had lots of questions.
and i put my hand to the wound in your head.

ah, the blood! all of that blood!
all of that warm blood flowing freely from you.

in the five minutes when i was dead to the world,
in a place far away from my friends and my home,
i saw you with a smile on your radiant face,
amidst all of the cans and the glass and the chrome.

and in those five minutes, my signal was jammed.
the frequencies that i received were so pure,
that i almost believed
that the sight of the hole in your skull
was a thing that my heart could endure.

ah, the blood! all of that blood!
all of that warm blood flowing freely from you!

Émile Nelligan: Vintra vespero (Soir d'hiver)

Aĥ! Kiel neĝis la neĝo!
Prujnoĝarden' la vitr' estas.
Aĥ! Kiel neĝis la neĝo!
Kiel vivospasmo ŝajnas
Kontraŭ senfina doloro!

Akvo ĉie ŝtoniĝinta,
Nigras l' anim': Kial? Kien?
Akvo ĉie ŝtoniĝinta,
El mia Tulea haven'
Ja forfuĝis ĉiel' blonda.

Veu, februaraj birdoj,
Pro l' funebra naturtremer’,
Veu, februaraj birdoj,

Pleurez mes pleurs, pleurez mes roses,
Aux branches du genévrier.

Ah! comme la neige a neigé!
Ma vitre est un jardin de givre.
Ah! comme la neige a neigé!
Qu'est-ce que le spasme de vivre
À tout l'ennui que j'ai, que j'ai!

Robert Louis Stevenson: Am', Cuyat Am'
(Love, What Is Love)

AM' - cuyat1 Am'? Doloram, grandam Cor';
Tordmanoy; Cùietesc'; Longsonzesper'.
Wiw' - cuyat Wiwom? Sobrez Calwmarchter'
Obserwir Ames Wenon, Irron phor.
LOVE - what is love? A great and aching heart;
Wrung hands; and silence; and a long despair.
Life - what is life? Upon a moorland bare
To see love coming and see love depart.

Emily Dickinson: "Esper'" 'as la plumaĵo ("Hope" is the thing with feathers)

"Esper'" 'as la plumaĵo—
Anima ensidant'—
De ĝi sonadas sen eĉ vort'—
Neniamĉesa—kant'—

Plejdolĉ-aŭdebla—en la Ŝtorm'—
Kaj akru la tempest'—
Kapabla por hontig' de l' Bird'
Proviza per varmrest'1

Mi aŭdis ĝin en plejkalmland'—
Ĉe Fremdmar' sonis ĝi—
Neniam, tamen, en Ekstrem',
Krumbpetis2 ĝi—de Mi.
"Hope" is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—

And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—

I've heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea—
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.

1: resto ~ restado
2: krumbo ~ panero (de la Angla "crumb")

The Spaniels (La Spanieloj): Bonnokton, Karulin' (Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight)

Bonnokton, kara, mi iru nun.
Bonnokton, kara, mi iru nun.
Foriro aĉas, sed indas ĝi tro,
do bonnokton, karulin'.

Estas jam la tria matene.
Kara, ne eblas bonkondut'!
Domaĝe disiĝu ni jam –
sed eble iam..
Ja vin amegas mi.

Bonnokton, kara, mi iru nun.
Bonnokton, kara, mi iru nun.
Foriro aĉas, sed indas ĝi tro,
do bonnokton, karulin'.

Panjo kaj via paĉjo
geniĝus de trolongrestad'.
Nur kis' en mallum' –
kaj for mi iros..
Ja aĉas la forir'!

Bonnokton, kara, mi iru nun.
Bonnokton, kara, mi iru nun.
Foriro aĉas, sed indas ĝi tro,
do bonnokton, karulin'.
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go.
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go.
I hate to leave you but I really must say
oh, goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Well, it's three o'clock in the morning.
Baby, I just can't get right.
Well, I hate to leave you, baby –
but don't mean maybe..
Because I love you so.

Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go.
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go.
I hate to leave you but I really must say
oh, goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Mother, oh, and your father
don't like it if I stay here too long.
One kiss in the dark –
and I'll be going..
You know I hate to go!

Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go.
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go.
I hate to leave you but I really must say
oh, goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Lolita: Marist', Via Hejmo 'as la Mar' (Seemann, deine Heimat ist das Meer)

Marist', ne plu sonĝu!
Ĉesu hejmsopir'.
Marist', vent' kaj ondoj
indas je forir':

Via hejmo 'as la mar',
La amikoj altaj steloj
Super Rio kaj Ŝanhaj',
Ĉe Balio kaj Havaj'.
Via amo 'as la ŝip',
Foraj landoj viaj celoj,
Nur al ili fidu vi
Dum viva temp'.

Marist', ne plu sonĝu!
Pensu ne pri mi.
Marist', ĉar la foro
Vokas jen al vi:

Via hejmo 'as la mar',
La amikoj altaj steloj
Super Rio kaj Ŝanhaj',
Ĉe Balio kaj Havaj'.
Via amo 'as la ŝip',
Foraj landoj viaj celoj,
Nur al ili fidu vi
Dum viva temp'.
Seemann, lass das Träumen!
Denk nicht an Zuhaus.
Seemann, Wind und Wellen
Rufen dich hinaus:

Deine Heimat ist das Meer,
Deine Freunde sind die Sterne
Über Rio und Shanghai,
Über Bali und Hawaii.
Deine Liebe ist dein Schiff,
Deine Sehnsucht ist die Ferne
Und nur ihnen bist du treu
Ein Leben lang.

Seemann, lass das Träumen!
Denke nicht an mich.
Seemann, denn die Fremde
wartet schon auf dich:

Deine Heimat ist das Meer,
Deine Freunde sind die Sterne
Über Rio und Shanghai,
Über Bali und Hawaii.
Deine Liebe ist dein Schiff,
Deine Sehnsucht ist die Ferne
Und nur ihnen bist du treu
Ein Leben lang.

Anne Hébert: La Piano (Le Piano)

Sufiĉis unu delikata noto
Nura fingropremo

Jonathan Drew Groff: Boacoj Pli Bonas Ol Homoj (Reindeers Are Better Than People)

Boacoj pli bonas ol homoj.
Sven, ĉu ne veras ĝi?
Jes, homoj vin rompos
kaj damnos kaj trompos!
Ĉiu ajn nur malbonas – krom vi.

(Dankon, amiĉjo!)

Bonodoras pli hom' ol boaco.
Sven, ĉu ne boninform'?
Ree ĝustas ĝi – por ĉiuj krom vi.
Vi min kaptis! Nun venu bondorm'.
Bondorm'! Atentu pri l' vintra ŝtorm'.
Reindeers are better than people
Sven, don't you think that's true?
Yeah, people will beat you
and curse you and cheat you!
Every one of 'em's bad – except you.

(Thanks, buddy!)

But people smell better than reindeers.
Sven, don't you think I'm right?
That's once again true – for all except you.
You got me. Let's call it a night.
Good night! Don't let the frostbite bite.

Anne Hébert: Certe Estas Iu (Il y a certainement quelqu'un)

Certe estas iu
Kiu mortigis min
Kaj ŝtelforiris
Piedpinte
Sen rompi sian perfektan dancadon

Forgesis kuŝigi min
Lasis min starantan
Tute ligitan
Sur la vojo
La koro en sia malnova kesteto
La pupiloj similaj
Al siaj plej puraj akvobildoj

Forgesis forviŝi la belecon de la mondo
Ĉirkaŭ mi
Forgesis fermi miajn okulojn avidajn
Kaj ebligis ilian malpermesitan pasion
Il y a certainement quelqu'un
Qui m'a tuée
Puis s'en est allé
Sur la pointe des pieds
Sans rompre sa danse parfaite.

A oublié de me coucher
M'a laissée debout

Amen! Amen!
Lord, I will lift my eyes to the hills
Knowing my help is coming from You.
Your peace You give me in time of the storm.

You are the source of my strength,
You are the strength of my life,
I lift my hands in total praise to You.

Amen! Amen!

Atahualpa Yupanqui: Malriĉul' 'as mi (Pobrecito soy)

Malriĉul' 'as mi
Malriĉul' 'as mi
Mi silentas prie
Ja pro tio, eble,
Malriĉul' 'as mi

Kun terpeco de terpomoj
Kaj terpeco de kukurboj
Nemalproksime al la val'
Kaj tutapude al la kral'
Kaj kelkafoje prosperas
Kaj kelkafoje senfruktas

Malriĉul' 'as mi
Malriĉul' 'as mi
Mi silentas prie
Ja pro tio, eble,
Malriĉul' 'as mi

Disfloras je l' sama sezon'
Kaj la rev' kaj la malĝoj'
Ambaŭ l' anim' kaj la tero
Sinnutras per klopodado
Kaj kelkafoje prosperas
Kaj kelkafoje senfruktas
Nu, kial? Kial?
Ve, miaj rikoltoj!
Ve! Kial? Kial?
Malriĉul' 'as mi
Ve! Kial? Kial?
¡Pobrecito soy!
¡Pobrecito soy!
Yo nunca lo digo
Tal vez que por eso
Pobrecito soy

Tengo un cerquito de papas
Y otrito de zapallal,
El uno cerca del abra,
El otro junto al corral,
Y a veces se logran,
Y a veces se pierden

¡Pobrecito soy!
¡Pobrecito soy!
Yo nunca lo digo
Tal vez que por eso
Pobrecito soy

Van floreciendo mis sueños
A la par de mis tristezas,
También precisa cuidados
El alma como la tierra
Y a veces se logran
Y a veces se pierden
¿Y como será?
¡Ay! ¡Mis cosechitas!
¿Y como será?
Pobrecito soy!
¿Y como será?

Langston Hughes: Harlemo (Harlem)

Kio fariĝas kun revo prokrastita?

Ĉu, kiel sunumata rosino,
ĝi elsekiĝas?
Aŭ, ĉu sepsiĝas kiel ulcero—
Kaj tiam pusas?
Ĉu ĝi fetoras kiel putra viando?
Aŭ, ĉu krustiĝas kaj sukerumiĝas—
kiel siropa dolĉaĵo?

Eble, kiel peza ŝarĝo,
ĝi nur fleksiĝas.

Aŭ ĉu detonacias?
What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Evitante spegulojn

"Nekompleta opinio", rebatas Di’ l’ Patro. "Ĉu vi ne aŭdis pri tiuj antaŭurbaj familioj, kiuj eluzas siajn junajn jarojn lukrante salajron apenaŭ sufiĉan por pagi tiun hidan domegon kaj vomigan gazonon, kaj fine de dudek jaroj de punlaboro, la idoj forlasas la gepatrojn kaj neniam plu amas ilin."
Kaj neniam plu amas ilin

Nu, ek!
Iom da sincereco!
Kia ploriga mondo.

Publikajn necesejojn kaj dentajn abscesojn

Fine, Dio kaj Budho kaj Kriŝnao kaj Alaho, elĉerpitaj pro la streb’, eksilentas, pesimismaj, rigardante la piedfingrojn, rigardante la piedojn.
Rigardante la piedojn

Sed Di’ la Patro, ĉiam gajema, revigliĝas. "Kolegoj, jen iu brandeto, kiu certe plaĉos al vi", kaj li disdonas glasojn. Budho ekridetas: ankaŭ li estis antaŭvidema. Sakeo libere defluas. Manitu’ kunportis mariĥuanon, kaj Ŝivo, haŝiŝon. Alaho eliras.

Kia ploriga mondo!

The Mountain Goats (La Montokaproj): La Plej Bona Mortmetalbando En Denton (The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton)

La plej bona mortmetalbando el Denton
'is du uloj,
Kiuj ekde lerneje amikis.
L' unua 'is Cyrus, la alia Jeff:
En ties dormĉambr' ili regularpraktikis.

La plej bona mortmetalbando el Denton
Neniam pri nom' findecidis;
Sed 'is la tri plej elstaraj
post diskut' tra semajnoj
Satanfingroj kaj La Murdantoj
Kaj L' Malsanulejbombistoj.

Jeff kaj Cyrus enkore cert-estis ke ili
Plenumos mojosajn, famigajn fararojn;
En skribaĵoj, do, kun pentagrama amaso
Ili skizis la nomojn
Sur tamburojn kaj gitarojn.

Kaj Cyrus sendiĝis al fremdlernej', kie
Oni diris, ke li ne povos fami;
Kaj Jeff, en leteroj
Senditaj al lia amik',
Kreis planon por kontraŭteami.

Punante la revon de iu, ne pensu
Ke dankon respond' inkluzivos:
La plej bona mortmetalbando el Denton
Vin fine superos, postvivos.

Do vivu Satan', jes, Satan'!
Li vivu! Satan'!
The best ever death metal band out of Denton
Was a couple of guys
Who'd been friends since grade school.
One was named Cyrus, the other was Jeff,
And they practiced twice a week in Jeff's bedroom.

The best ever death metal band out of Denton
Never settled on a name;
But the top three contenders
After weeks of debate
Were Satan's Fingers, and The Killers,
and The Hospital Bombers.

Jeff and Cyrus believed in their hearts they were headed
For stage lights and learjets and fortune and fame;
So in script that made prominent use of a pentagram
They stenciled their drumheads
And guitars with their names.

And this was how Cyrus got sent to the school
Where they told him he'd never be famous;
And this was why Jeff,
In the letters he'd write to his friend
Helped develop a plan to get even.

When you punish a person for dreaming his dream,
Don't expect him to thank or forgive you:
The best ever death metal band out of Denton
Will in time both outpace and outlive you.

Hail Satan! Hail Satan tonight!
Hail Satan! Hail, hail!

Atahualpa Yupanqui: Demandoj pri Dio (Preguntitas sobre Dios)

Al av’ mia mi demandis:
"Ĉu scias vi, kie Dio?"
Lia vizaĝ' tenebriĝis
Kaj ne venis la respondo.

Li mortis ĉe sia plugil'
Sen konfesio kaj preĝo
Zumo de fluto kaj knaril'
Por Indiana mortfesto.

Mi turnis min al la patro:
"Kion al ni anoncas Di'?"
Gravmiena iĝis Paĉjo.
Li preferis ne respondi.

La minejo lin mortkaptis
Sen kuracist' kaj protekto.
L' oron de l' mastro koloras
La sango de la ministo.

En la montaro mia frat'
Neniun ajn floron vidas.
Malari', serpentoj kaj ŝvit',
Hakistoj nur tiujn konas.

Kaj forlasu la demandon:
"Kie do sin kaŝas Dio?"
Li evitas la arbaron,
Tiu grandega moŝtulo.

Mi kantadas laŭ la vojo
Kaj ankaŭ kiam en prizon'
Sed pli bele popolĥoro
Tie kantas kordeziron.

Sur tero mi vidas ion
Pli gravan, ol ĉu estas Di':
Ke neniu kraĉu sangon
Por ies poŝojn ŝveligi.

Ĉu Di' pri l' malriĉul' zorgas?
Eblas ke jes, eblas ke ne.
Sed ja unu fakto certas:
Li manĝas ĉe l' mastroj gaste.
Un día yo pregunté:
Abuelo, dónde está Dios.
Mi abuelo se puso triste,
y nada me respondió.

Mi abuelo murió en los campos,
sin rezo ni confesión.
Y lo enterraron los indios,
flauta de caña y tambor.

Al tiempo yo pregunté:
¿Padre, qué sabes de Dios?
Mi padre se puso serio
y nada me respondió.

Mi padre murió en la mina
sin doctor ni protección.
¡Color de sangre minera
tiene el oro del patrón!

Mi hermano vive en los montes
y no conoce una flor.
Sudor, malaria, serpientes,
la vida del leñador.

Y que naide le pregunte
si sabe donde está Dios.
Por su casa no ha pasado
tan importante señor.

Yo canto por los caminos,
y cuando estoy en prisión
oigo las voces del pueblo
que canta mejor que yo.

Hay un asunto en la tierra
más importante que Dios.
Y es que nadie escupa sangre
pa que otro viva mejor.

¿Que Dios vela por los pobres?
Talvez sí, y talvez no.
Pero es seguro que almuerza
en la mesa del patrón.

Matthew Arnold: Dover-Strando (Dover Beach)

Ĉi-nokte l' mar' trankvilas.
Plenas la tajd', belkuŝas Lun'
Sur l' markolar'; ĉe l' franca bord' ekbrilas
Lumet', forestas; Anglaj klifoj staras;
Glimaj kaj vastaj, ĉe la kalma strand'.
Venu fenestren, noktvent' dolĉas nun!
Nur, de la longa ŝaŭma rand'
Kie, mar-renkontante, ter' lunklaras,
Aŭdu! La gratan, jen, roradon
De l' silikar' per ond' tirata, forte,
Kaj reĵetata, kie nun altmaras1;
La ondoj ekas, finas, la revoj'
Tremritmas, eke lantas, porte

Certeco, dolorhelpo, nek de pac';
'as ni ĉi tie kvazaŭ en noktspac'
Kun konfuzalarmar' pri flug', penramp',
Sur sensciula batalkamp'.
The sea is calm to-night.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand;
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Agaean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
